My problem is I have already used all of my pcie lanes and probably am overusing the pch as well and trying to figure out the best option to start adding more vdevs. So I thought I future proofed myself for longer than I did but I'm getting to 70% used on my array and starting to look at expanding again. My 218 and 320L are all running JBOD, while my sad 320 is just sitting there with one sad drive in its bay. What's my best solution to have a "single" point rather than 3 bifurcated options? I also have a windows mini pc (elite desk 800 g3 mini) serving plex to a few friends. Outside of the 218, I have a oh 4, 4gb that I use for multiple docker containers and it barely breaks a sweat doing that. MergeFS came up as a potential solution when I was thinking about where to start storing files when I do run out of space. I currently only have about 33% used on my main nas, so I'm in no rush but want to prepare for the future. I know the easiest solution would be to buy a beef nas, but that's not in the budget so I'm trying to make things work the best I can. My 320L has 8 and my 320 has 3, I've attached them this way to better handle the drives, as previously my 3tb drive in my 320 was attached as an external drive to my 218 The primary one I use is the Synology 218j with about 16tb of storage. So through my years of tinkering and upgrading I have 3 Nas systems.
